IN THE NEWS Firm History How We Charge

Sept 2008

Edward Stewart was recently inducted as a Fellow in The College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers. The College was founded with the support of the American Bar Association to recognize those attorneys who have distinguished themselves in their practice in the field of workers' compensation for a minimum of 20 years. Fellows have convinced their peers, the bar, bench and public that they possess the highest professional qualifications and ethical standards, character, integrity, professional expertise, and leadership and have shown significant evidence of scholarship, teaching, lecturing and writing on Workers' Compensation.

Attorney Stewart was a founding member and served as first chairman of the Workers Injury & Advocacy Group, a national non-profit organization dedicated to representing the interests of injured workers and their families. He has also spoken at more than 35 seminars over the past 28 years.

9/19/2008

Attorney Francis Murphy will be a speaker at a seminar in Manchester on September 19, 2008, "Personal Injury Case Management for Seasoned Litigators." He will be speaking about expert witnesses in personal injury cases and on obtaining favorable personal injury settlements. The seminar is offered by National Business Institute. Mr. Murphy is a frequent presenter at NBI seminars.
4/8/2008 Attorney Edward Stewart appeared before the House Labor Committee and provided extensive testimony on an amendment to Senate Bill 501 relating to workers’ compensation permanent impairment awards. Presently, RSA 281-A:32 requires that impairment ratings be calculated in accordance with the most recent edition of Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment published by the American Medical Association. The Sixth Edition of the Guides, effective on January 1, 2008, has resulted in impairment percentages substantially lower than those assessed under the Fifth Edition. Subsequent to Attorney Stewart’s presentation on the amendment which replaces “the most recent edition” with “Fifth Edition”, the committee passed it by a 17-1 vote. The bill goes on to a vote before the full New Hampshire House of Representatives. When this measure is enacted, injured workers will benefit by having their permanent impairments calculated under the Fifth Edition, rather than the more conservative Sixth Edition.
3/4/2008 Attorney John B. Kenison, Jr. will be speaking at a seminar, "Insurance Law: Third Party Coverage" on March 4, 2008, in Manchester. He will provide an overview of insurance fraud issues and address specific topics, such as, obligations of the insured, third-party liability coverage/conditions, concealment/fraud exclusions, and views of the claim.
12/14/2007

Atty. Edward Stewart will be moderating a seminar, “Workers’ Compensation Law in New Hampshire: Navigating the Muddy Waters”, for the New Hampshire Trial Lawyers Association on December 14, 2007. In addition to chairing the program, he will be speaking on when work related injury claims can be filed in either New Hampshire or Massachusetts and comparing the benefits available in both states.
Atty. Stewart is a Past-President of the New Hampshire Trial Lawyers Association and served on its Board of Governors from 1983 to 1996.

7/11/2007

Attorney Edward Stewart will be speaking at a seminar, "Basic Workers' Compensation in New Hampshire", on July 11, 2007, in Manchester. He will provide an overview of the workers' compensation system and address specific topics, such as permanent impairment awards, vocational rehabilitation, Compensation Appeals Board hearings and lump sum settlements.

Attorney Stewart was the founding chairman of Workers Injury Law & Advocacy Group, a national organization involved with workplace injury issues. He has lectured on more than 35 occasions since 1988.

5/2005
